YK Center Mission to Rwanda, January 2017

We are honored and humbled to have been invited by The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) to participate in their conference in Kigali, Rwanda on January 27th. This landmark conference convenes around the subject of Expediting the Implementation of Africa’s 2030 Agenda.

The event is co-organized by SDGC/A and the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI), with support from The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The primary objective of the Conference is to discuss the major themes relevant to the SDG implementation in Africa. The event will also mark the official launch of the Center.

The Center is a home-grown African institution, championing the implementation of the SDGs in line with the principles of AU’s 2063 Agenda. The purpose of the Center is to provide technical support, neutral advice and expertise as input to national governments, private sector, civil society, academic institutions to accelerate the implementation of the SDG agenda across Africa.

The SDGC/A Conference will begin with a comprehensive and deep assessment of the performance of African countries on the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to understand the roots of the challenges that hinder their achievement, as well as recognizing the best practices to move forward in line with the agenda of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The sessions that follow include:

  • An introduction to a comprehensive, cost effective and replicable Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER) System for all African nations to ensure a successful SDG Agenda;
  • A discussion about proposed support to African governments in the development of new financing models for enhancing the SDG financing effort to support its implementations; and,
  • A presentation of the Pan-African ICT Platform for SDGs, a unique and cutting-edge technology on biometric identification, which will soon be rolled out in African countries.

YK Center own mission and efforts are in clear alignment with the SDGC/A’s African development vision. The practical purpose of the Center is to provide technical support, neutral advice and expertise as input to national governments, private sector, civil society, academic institutions to accelerate the implementation of the SDG agenda across Africa.

We look forward to further developing deep relationships with these bold thought leaders and Global Game Changers and humbly offer our assistance in accelerating the Center’s mission to secures Africa’s rightful position in the global forum with all the other actors responsible for the global conversation and actions related to the SDGs.
